Lake Czorsztyn is one of southern Poland's most stunning reservoirs — a turquoise jewel set against the dramatic backdrop of castle ruins and mountain peaks. At just 15 minutes by car from our house, it's the perfect destination for a full day of summer fun.

Why Lake Czorsztyn Is a Must-Visit

Created in the 1990s by damming the Dunajec River, Lake Czorsztyn stretches over 12 square kilometres between the Pieniny and Gorce mountain ranges. The water is remarkably clean, the scenery is breathtaking, and the range of activities makes it ideal for families, couples, and groups alike.

Quick facts:

  • 15 minutes from our property by car
  • 12 km² surface area
  • Warm enough for swimming from June to September
  • Free public beach access at multiple points
  • Castle ruins visible from the water

Best Beaches and Swimming Spots

Czorsztyn Beach

The main beach sits below the medieval castle ruins, offering a unique combination of swimming and history. Facilities include changing rooms, a small snack bar, and equipment rental stands.

Best for: Families who want convenience and a view of Czorsztyn Castle

Kluszkowce Beach

On the southern shore, Kluszkowce is the most developed beach area with sunbed rentals, a beach volleyball court, and several restaurants within walking distance.

Best for: Groups looking for a lively atmosphere and easy dining options

Mizerna Cove

A quieter spot on the western shore, Mizerna is favoured by locals who prefer a more peaceful setting. The shallow entry makes it safe for young children.

Best for: Families with toddlers, or anyone seeking calm

Water Sports and Activities

Kayaking and Canoeing

Single and tandem kayaks are available for rent at multiple points around the lake. A popular route is to paddle from Kluszkowce towards Czorsztyn Castle, hugging the shoreline for about 4 km — an easy, scenic paddle that takes around 90 minutes.

Rental prices (approximate):

  • Single kayak: 30-40 PLN/hour
  • Tandem kayak: 50-60 PLN/hour
  • Life jackets included

Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

SUP boards can be rented at the main beaches. The calm lake surface makes Czorsztyn an excellent spot for beginners. Early mornings are best when the water is perfectly still.

Rental: 40-50 PLN/hour

Pedal Boats and Motor Boats

Pedal boats are a relaxed way to explore the lake with family. Small motorboats are also available for those who want to cover more ground.

  • Pedal boat: 40-50 PLN/hour (seats 4)
  • Motor boat: 80-120 PLN/hour

Sailing and Windsurfing

The afternoon thermals create consistent wind patterns that make the lake popular with windsurfers and small-boat sailors. Equipment rental and lessons are available at the Kluszkowce water sports centre.

Lake Czorsztyn with Kids

The lake is exceptionally family-friendly. Here's why our guests with children love it:

  • Shallow entry points at Mizerna and parts of Czorsztyn beach
  • Warm water temperatures reaching 22-24°C in July and August
  • Playgrounds near Kluszkowce beach
  • Short drive — just 15 minutes, so nap schedules stay intact
  • Ice cream and snack stands at every major beach

Combine a morning at the lake with an afternoon at our house's kids' zone for the perfect family day.

Czorsztyn Castle — History Meets the Lake

No visit to the lake is complete without exploring the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle, perched on a hill directly above the water. Built in the 14th century, the castle served as a border fortress between Poland and Hungary.

Visiting info:

  • Entry: 15 PLN adults, 10 PLN children
  • Open daily in summer: 9:00–18:00
  • Allow 45–60 minutes for the full visit
  • The views from the tower over the lake are spectacular

Across the water you can see Niedzica Castle, which is even better preserved and hosts regular medieval festivals in summer.
